Quiet Monday /

Birthday /

C: What is your favorite cake?

M: Mmm... Fruit cake.

C: Like...?

M: You know, Korean cake with a lot of fruits.

C: Ohhh.. (There is no Korean bakery in Raleigh though..)

It was first time being together to celebrate Matt's birthday. So... I decided to make the "Fruit cake" from scratch for his birthday! The cake would be a special surprise for him, and I made cakes several times before, following my favorite Korean baking book. They were pretty good. "Let's do it!" I was excited and bold to make a surprise birthday cake for him.

When I was about to start preparing all the ingredients that I secretly bought, someone came into my house. It was Matt. He came back from work at 2:00 pm. Why did the team lead let him come home early today? Oh my goodness. My plan was ruined. I had to explained everything in order to proceed to bake the cake. He laughed at my disappointed look. Avoidably, I made him take a nap in a bedroom and started baking.

You will see the finished cake later. ;)

The birthday boy.
Now he is twenty......%$@.

"Happy Birthday!"

Our favorite food is necessary for us to be excited on such a special day.

After the sweet dinner, just two of us had a small and intimate birthday party at home. Finally, the time for "the cake".

Honestly, the cake turned out so well.
It was moist, fluffy, soft, and less sweet.
Perfect!

Farmers Market

The one thing I really enjoy in Raleigh is to go shopping at Farmers Market. Contrary to the busiest city like New York there aren't many places crowded with people in Raleigh - even though Raleigh is a capital city in North Carolina. I used to hate crowded streets, markets, and tourist attractions when I lived in Manhattan, but after moving to here I sometimes miss the vigorous atmosphere surrounded by people walking around. The Farmers Market is one of the places where you can feel people's energy. Thus, I like going there not only for fresh vegetables, meats, and bakeries.

For our Saturday brunch, Matt and I explored a seafood restaurant, which is right next to the Farmers Market.

It offers southern style seafood which is mainly fried,
but we tried boiled shrimp and fish.

The Crab Cake Sandwich
It was really good.

Next to the bakery where we bought a loaf of fresh sourdough bread,

There was a flower stand selling various kinds of beautiful flowers.
I couldn't pass it. I started picking up the flowers that I liked.

The bouquet from Farmers Market became a pleasant object in our living room.

Nevertheless /

I felt homesick the seventh week after I moved to Raleigh. I wanted to express my thought, concern, and anxiety about my future career freely in my mother tongue face to face, but all my friends who could just listen and understand me without any filter were not here. I was a bit depressed. I missed my family and friends.

Nevertheless, I like to be here because there is a someone who cares and loves me more than himself. When I am with him, I can say, "I. am. happy." "I. am. in. love." That's why I'm here to be with him.

The flowers from him reminded me of the love we have. The warm feeling in my chest spread due to the surprise, the bright color, and how amazing he is for thinking of me. I felt so blessed that I have him.

Husbands, giving flowers to your beautiful wife really works.

Simple is the best /

What shall we eat tonight?

Sometimes, it is more fun to make a simple dish without following a recipe.

LD weekend /

After finishing organizing a tea shelf,

we had a cup of tea containing caffeine,

but he ended up taking a nap.

Next day, we went shopping due to big sales,

I couldn't deny that shopping makes me excited...

Nevertheless, the soft serve was the best.

After the pig-out holiday, we decided to eat healthy.

I made mid-size anchovy dish, and sister Eunice gave us big and small-size anchovy dishes.

We are enjoying healthy meals with all kinds of anchovy.

Super food, Anchovy

"Despite being a food phobia of many, these oily little fish have increasingly become exposed as a powerhouse for healthy living.  A 100g serving of anchovy meat can provide our bodies with 19 grams of protein, 77 grams of calcium, 3 milligrams of iron and plenty of omega-3s. ... These minerals are vital for bone, nerve and muscle health as well as glucose regulation, energy production, immune function, blood clotting and blood oxygenation."
